While conception may occur, Queen Anne’s Lace may be used to “interfere” and prevent implantation of an egg into the uterine wall. Without implantation, a pregnancy cannot develop.

Queen Anne’s Lace has many properties as a diuretic, deobstruent and stimulant, but its most common use is as an implantation inhibitor for contraceptive use. It does not prevent conception, but rather prevents the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall and developing. It is often called “Nature’s Morning After Pill”.

More scientifically, it limits the production of progesterone which is a necessary hormone for the healthy development of a pregnancy. Without a sustained amount of progesterone, the lining of the uterus does not grow enough to be supportive and nourishing to a fertilized egg; thus preventing implantation. With implantation not being realized, the egg begins to break down along with the uterine lining, menstruation occurs as normal and may be normal to heavy.

    Dosage:

It appears to be at its most reliable used simply as a “morning-after” herb, taken 8-24 hours after risky intercourse, up to 3 times within a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of 72 hours. All methods of usage are limited to 1-3 times after sexual intercourse.

    Dried Seeds:

Chewed: 1 teaspoon chewed well and swallowed with water. (*oldest historical method*)

Ground: 1 teaspoon freshly ground just before use in a clean coffee grinder or mortar and pestle and mixed with a small glass of cold water.

Tea: 1 teaspoon freshly ground just before use in clean coffee grinder or mortar and pestle, brewed by pouring 240ml boiling water over herbs and steeping for 15-30 minutes.

** This is not to be use on a daily basis as a contraceptive.
